Mike is originally from NJ, where he worked as an assistant forester and organic farmer. After graduating from Rutgers University in 2002 with a B.S. in Natural Resource Management (Forestry Concentration) and a Minor in Agroecology, Mike moved to the beautiful Asheville area. He started work with a local, well-respected tree service providing high quality tree care. Mike became a International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist in 2003. In 2005, he “branched” out on his own and started WNC Arborist with the goal of providing high quality tree care to the Asheville area.
 
Mike has performed tree work for the National Park Service, the NC Forest Service, and for several historic and high-value sites around Western NC. He takes pride in his work and maintains ethical work standards at all times. He continues to improve his skills and knowledge through workshops, conferences, and collaboration with other arborists.
 
Mike is also a full-time professional firefighter and EMT with the City of Asheville Fire Department. Most of the WNC Arborist crew members are also professional firefighters, so you can rest assured that when we come to perform your work, we will be polite, respectful, trustworthy, hard working, and above all, safe. Asheville firefighters work 10 shifts per month, 24 hours at a time. This leaves us plenty of time to schedule and complete your projects during the other 20 days of the month.
 
WNC Arborist is fully insured for all aspects of tree care and removal. WNC Arborist maintains professional affiliations as a Member of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), a Member of the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), and a Member of the North Carolina Urban Forest Council (NCUFC).
 
We try to be as environmentally minded as possible, recycling all wood waste, utilizing biodegradable, vegetable-based bar oil in our chainsaws, and running biodiesel in our diesel-powered equipment. Because it is important to conserve our building resources and make advances in sustainable living, WNC Arborist is a member of the Western North Carolina Green Building Council. To help further reduce our impact on the planet, WNC Arborist has recently become Western North Carolina’s first and only Carbon Neutral tree service!
